William and Kate has come to Sabah!

Who's excited? ME!!!

The Duke of Cambridge Prince William and his wife Catherine Middleton was in Sabah as part of the of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee celebration. They arrived at Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) on the 14th September and was welcomed with a bamboo percussion instruments performance called the tonggungak.

The royal couple flew to Danum Valley on Sabah's East Coast via helicopter the next day. Continuous research on hydrological and geomorphological aspects of Danum Valley, climate monitoring and forest dynamics are some of the aspects in the research programs which dated back to 1994 and being carried out by Royal Society's South East Asia Rainforest Research Programme.

After walking though the rainforests to reach the Danum Valley Research Centre, Prince William and Duchess Catherine also had a go on the 300 metres canopy walk. Prince William had a longstanding interest on forestry conservation and he said his father- Prince Charles has a soft spot for the rain forests.

During the visit Prince William was quoted saying:

"To me, the visit was both successful and beneficial as it will now lift the Danum Valley Conservation Area to a higher level. It is truly a recognition to the joint effort by Yayasan Sabah and the Royal Society, especially to our conservation works."

The 9-day tour will include Singapore, Malaysia, Solomon Islands and Tuvalu in the Far East.

How could I resist writing a blog post on this? The visit was the most talked about event these few days. The photos are borrowed here, there and everywhere. Obviously I'm not there to witness their tour myself, I'm not aggressive enough to make it through the hoards of people waiting for them at the KKIA either. I would probably be squished out of breath or stamped flat, lol, crowds are not my thing.

Oh yes, before I forget, Happy Malaysia Day also! Tomorrow is another public holiday.

A twisted tale of the Three Little Piggies

This is a short story I've improvised in my creative writing class a few months back. We're supposed to modernized the tale of the 3 Piggies and the big bad wolf. I mixed it up a bit and here's what I've done.

Once upon a time, not too long ago, there were 3 pigs: Papa Pig, Mama Pig and Baby Pig. They lived together in a small brick house in the middle of the woods. They preferred living in the wilderness because they disliked the hustle and bustle of town life.

One fine day, Mama Pig made a big pot of porridge for the Piggy family’s breakfast. Papa pig took a big bite of the steaming porridge and exclaimed loudly “Oh, this porridge is too hot!” Mama pig took a taste despite Papa Pig’s warning and said “Oh, this porridge IS too hot!” Baby pig took a teeny tiny bite and whimpers at his hot porridge.

Papa declared, “Let us go for a walk while the porridge cools enough to eat.” So the three pigs dressed up in their best clothes and head out for a walk.” While they were out, a young girl with golden locks and wearing a bright red cloak came by. She was on her way to grandmother’s house but got lost in the woods: “Damned GPS doesn’t work; I should get my money back.” She saw a quaint little house in the middle of the woods by chance and decided to see if there is any one in there.
