The Food Court #2

I love going to The Food Court in Wisma Merdeka for breakfast. Today we tried something different than usual, although some are the same food as last post: The Food Court #1
Economy Rice Stall
This stall rarely open on Sundays, at least we didn't manage to see them open during the past few times we've been here. It might be that we're a bit earlier this round. My parents suddenly craved Economy noodles, this is what they got, fried noodles with their signature stuffed tofu. The noodles remind me of the kind we used to have at school and the tofu...the tofu is awesome! The surface is nicely browned and smells absolutely lovely, while the insides are nice a soft, the minced meat stuffing taste really good and flavorful. Even though the inside of the tofu has no flavor but when eaten with the stuffing, its a match made in heaven. A little exaggerated, my apologies, but the tofu is really yummy.

Crispy skin, yum.
The noodles were good as usual, but nothing is better than their Wonton or dumpling soup! Their soup is not the usual watered down soup served elsewhere, they have either Winter melon soup base or bitter gourd soup base, the bitter gourd soup is sweet without the usual bitter taste I hated. Their dumplings have generous minced meat and nice chunks of prawns in it, you really have to try it for yourself.

Pizza n' Burger
Le parents prefer Chinese style breakfast while Le children preferred Western style breakfast. Without fail, me and my siblings will make a bee line to this stall that we've been going to since forever, even before they moved here. We wanted beef steak but they're out of stock, so we settled for Chicken chop and fish steak, we've never tried this before so we're quite excited. My brother wanted his usual Chicken Lasagna, the rest of us liked the beef more. The chicken chop and fish steak looks similar as they are covered with the thick, creamy mushroom sauce, yum yum. At first we thought the fish steak is the usual dory fish fillet, but surprisingly they used mackerel, it was nicely grilled and smells lovely. The Chicken could be better if it weren't overdone, it was a little too dry but chewy, depends on how you look at it. The stall was owned and run by a husband and wife team, but the wife was out today and so the husband was juggling everything in a One Man Show. We might give the chicken another chance, but the fish and beef will definitely become a repeat order, so is the beef lasagna.

* I had the first question of my first assignment done, 3 more to go. I hope I can send it out within this week. If I do 1 question per day, that will take me until Saturday. (You may ignore this)

The Food Court

Yesterday we had breakfast at The Food Court in Wisma Merdeka. I believe not many people knew about this place since its in a tucked away corner. It's on the same floor of the other food court. In my opinion, there are a whole lot better options in here compared to over there. I'll let the pictures do the talking.

Current items available.

You must try this stall

Kon Lou Mee with Char Siew

Good enough

Really good dumplings
The soup is some kind of herbal winter melon soup, it taste really good. The wontons are big and juicy, you will regret not trying this out.

This is the dumplings, with huge prawns inside.
Nope, that ain't a fly you see in there. It's some herb thing.

Large, juicy wontons with generous stuffing
This stall below is the Western Food stall I have been going to since kindergarten age. This friendly Filipino couple have been operating in the old Wisma Food Court for even longer than my 21 years of existence. My mother and aunt used to have a shop near by, and whenever I'm there, Western food is always my choice and I always ordered their beef lasagna. Till this day, there is not another lasagna that could please me more than theirs will, maybe I'm being bias, but this is the taste I'm used to, it was imprinted in my mind that lasagna should taste like this. That does not mean I shunned all other lasagna, though.
Pizza and Burger

Their Pizza menu

Hawaiian Pizza

Tomatoes, ham and pineapples
The crust is really crunchy, like a cracker.

Beef Lasagna

What I always do to the buns, to be eaten after all the lasagna were polished off

Sizzling Steak
Their steak may not be made of the best grade beef, but the way they cook it sure beats many big name restaurants out there. Don't believe me? Try it for yourself. This is one of the best steaks I've tasted, I loved the great mushroom sauce.
YUMS! Words could not describe how absolutely awesome this is.
Soto

Pretty good
If you're going to Wisma anyway, do seek them out, your efforts would be well worth it in the end. I really do want to keep them in business.

Wisma Food Court

Had a late breakfast yesterday at Wisma Food Court, for those who has not visited Wisma, you would be surprised by the new interior of the place. Many of the old stalls had moved away and was replaced by new vendors, you can still find the same food at these new stalls like western food, chicken rice, Chap Fan, Malay mix rice and such, however, the taste are all different now. The interior design has a oldies vibe which takes you back to the good old days, there are many details that can be seen around the food court now.

I used to go there often during my college days with my class mates, we would usually order Ban Mien, I never tried any other Ban Mien except from one of the stalls there. So after they moved away, I have desperately tried to find a replacement for my Ban Mien cravings, I have found one in Inanam, will blog about it in the near future. But if anyone knew where the previous Ban Mien stall moved to, please, please tell me, I missed their seafood soup base. Another one of the stalls I frequented is the Malay rice stall near the exit, their baby kailan is my absolute favorite, I have not find a restaurant that cooked a better kailan. Me and my classmate would happily devour a plate of rice with nothing but kailan as accompaniment. Alas, they moved away after the renovation, wonder where they are now, I hungered for a good kailan. I knew the vegetarian stall moved to Gaya street together with 5 Star Chicken Rice and the drinks stall, while the Western Food stall- Burger and Pizza moved over to the new food court, also on the same floor as this food court. (will blog about that as well, do be patient)

Have I bored you with my ramblings? Go on, you may now feast your eyes with some pictures I've taken.

Love this the most

The portion of the fish and chips are huge.

Chicken rice, so-so to my standards. I still prefer the previous chicken rice stall from 5 Star Chicken Rice. They moved to Gaya Street and has opened a few other branches in Suria Sabah and City Mall...
Chicken Rice

As for the fried dumpling, the fillings could be more generous, but overall, it is tasty enough. The stall owner's young son was quite hardworking, trying to get people to order their dumplings. He might be around 8 to 9 years old, quite chubby and adorable, we couldn't resist ordering from him.

Lots of love,
