Breakfast @HongKong Recipe

Still prefer the branch at One Borneo.
One artistic shot of their mirrored ceiling, kunun.

Dumpling soup
Their soup is pretty good, the dumplings are lovely with lots of prawns inside.
Char Siew with Spinach Noodles
My camera is completely out of focus for this picture. Char Siew is nice.
Fish Fillet with Spinach Noodles
Somehow my camera choose to focus on the background and made the front blurry. The noodles are pretty average. I usually order the cheese baked rice with seafood, but we were too early and they didn't have it yet. I also like their glazed pork ribs with fried rice and sunny-side-up.
Peanut Butter and Condense Milk on thick toast
What better way to end a meal with a yummilicious thick toast? I was in dilemma between choosing this or the Kaya and Condense milk toast. Peanut butter won but I will be giving the Kaya one a try next time. I know I could make my own, it's not that hard. However it's always nicer when someone else made it.

Brooklyn at 1 Borneo

After Tea Box, we walked around the mall and end up at Brooklyn some times later, so we decided to stop in and have a quick lunch. It might be a nice location to throw a birthday party since the place is huge and can seat many people, not that I'm planning to throw a party or anything, its just a suggestion for anyone who might be interested. To read my previous post on this place, click Here. I think the photo quality is slightly better than the last time.
Double Cheese and Ham Sandwich RM12.90
The classic sandwich with ham and cheese, served together with salad on the side.
Beef Bacon Seafood Pizza RM18.90
This Pizza is nice and flavorful, although the shrimp is rather small.

Hawaii Teriyaki Burger RM18.50
Burger with nice beef patties served with teriyaki sauce, pineapples and fries,  lots of fries.
Original Coney Island Cheese Dog RM15.50
Hot dogs topped with bolognese meat sauce and cheese, served with fries and bits of salad.
Pan Fried Dory Fish RM24.80
Pan Fried Dory on top of a bed of mashed potatoes and salad, the sauce is too salty in my opinion. But overall, its passable.

Waffles with Peach and Ice-cream RM10.90
How can we say no to good ole Waffles with Peach and Ice-cream, a must order whenever we're there. Yums.

Tea Box at 1 Borneo

While waiting for my sis and mom outside of Kaison, I decided to sit down for a short tea break nearby, there are Mario's Pizza, VedaBlu and TeaBox. I planned to have Mario's but I thought of having a proper lunch soon, so that one is out. Then I wandered over to VedaBlu, but they didn't have my favorite flavor- Pepito (It's been a while, what happened VedaBlu?), they do have a new flavor called Bambangan or Wild Mangoes that is favored by the Sabah Kadazandusun natives, sounds interesting but maybe next time.

In the end, Tea Box it is, I've never actually tried Tea Box before so I settled for a Vanilla Creme Frappe. I love the subtle vanilla flavor within the milky slush, nice. Pricing is rather reasonable too. Maybe I would try the Peppermint Frappe, Green Milk Tea, Vanilla/Peppermint Latte next time. My Dad might like the Mango Frappe, he is very fond of mangoes.

p/s: Pictures edited with Picnik to give a Lomo-ish look to it, I wanted to make it look more interesting, do tell me if you found it too O.T.T.

Kenny Rogers Roasters

After a session of broke back shopping at the Popular Book Sale in 1 Borneo 2011. We've stopped by at the nearest Kenny Rogers Roaster's for a quick lunch. Also to rest our aching feet and back from carrying all that books. Seriously, the only times I ever thought, "I need a man" is always during book sales, I need someone to carry all those books for me while I dig through the piles of discounted books, of course, to foot the bill in the end of the day (hehehe) But never mind, so far I've survived countless book sales without a man, other than Daddy dearest, to whom I'm most grateful of his support for my love of books, although he would sometimes make me carry all those stuff by myself, oh well, I'm not complaining. If you're reading this now Daddy, I lapiu <3.

Alright, since we weren't really that hungry yet, we've only ordered something light.

Christmas Decorations at 1 Borneo

Some pictures of the Christmas Decorations at 1 Borneo I have taken a few weeks back. This year's theme is under water creatures, you can see dolphins and jelly fishes, pirate ships... I've edited them to give a dreamy feel to it. I wished I could have taken some without so much people in the background.

Hong Kong Recipe

Went to have breakfast at Hong Kong Recipe, 1 Borneo. It's was a public holiday so I'm enjoying myself by having good food at the start of my day, and my day starts at 10 a.m by the way.  The waiter who took our order was really impressive, they must have had the whole menu drilled into their brains and was able to recall the exact name of the dishes even when we ordered by the numberings. I peered at his notepad, it doesn't have anything printed on it, it must be sheer memory.

I have been re-watching Stephen Chow's 'God of Cookery' from 1996, after so long his movies are still enjoyable. King of comedies is definitely a fitting name for him. Why is this relevant, you might ask? Well, in one scene where Stephen Chow was at his lowest, Karen Mok brought him a steaming bowl of Char Siew rice with a sunny side up, and towards the end while Stephen Chow was competing in a Cookery competition, he remade the dish due to shortage of time (that fat guy sabotaged him) The Char Siew rice not only wins the heart of the judge but also had me drooling the whole time. This is what brought me to Hong Kong Recipe. Although Hong Kong Recipe have their version of Char Siew rice, but I chose to go with the Sweet and sour pork rice with egg.

Iced green tea RM1.00 each

Cheese baked rice with Pork Chop RM14.80
We ordered a Cheese baked rice with Taiwan sausage at the same price, egg fried rice topped with a breaded pork chop and lots of chewy, stringy cheese. Yums. I prefer the Cheese baked rice with seafood myself.
Crispy roasted duck (small) Rm12.00
A bit too salty eaten on its own, if you have some rice to go with it, that would be perfect.
Deep Fried Fresh Prawn Wantan RM7.80
Used to be better, a little tasteless this time, same goes with the prawn dumpling below:
Deep Fried fresh prawn dumpling RM7.80

Grilled Chicken wing with egg rice RM9.80

Crispy chicken wings.

Sweet and sour pork rice with egg RM10.80

Succulent slices of pork

Oooh, sunny side up, firm yolk but still slightly runny.
A mouthful of egg yolk must be one of the most blissful things in the world.... swoons.
That's a lot of rice, even for a rice bucket like me.
A rice bucket is what used to describe someone who needs a lot of rice, it could also mean simpleton. I hoped I'm not the latter.

All the above, including 2 iced milo for RM4.20 each, one Coffee in Hong Kong Style RM3.80 and A Taiwan Mix BBQ noodle RM9.80 made up to RM112.00 including government and service tax. They have a branch in Warisan Square if you couldn't make it that far.

La Fuente

I discovered this place from the KK Foodfest booklet previously, Spanish food is something new to us, so we decided to give them a try. Pardon the dark pictures, this place is a cross between a bar and restaurant, so the setting is a bit dim. There were quite a lot of items on their menu, its worth coming back to try some other stuff. When I think of Spanish food, I think of Paella, tacos and kebabs, I'm not sure these are actual Spanish dishes, I might have gotten it mixed up with Mexican food.

While we were there, there were another pair of couples nearby. I couldn't help but notice throughout their dinner there, the guy was either eating or staring into space, while his, I assumed its his girlfriend was busy poking at her smart phone. No conversation, no nothing. Is this how couples go out dating nowadays?

I love the wine rack on top

Choco Banana RM11
Taste mildly of chocolate and just a little hint of banana.
Freshly squeezed watermelon juice RM 8
As promised, cooling and refreshing watermelon juice.
Iced lemon tea RM9

Tostada Gambas RM10.90
I didn't know what this is while looking at the menu, so I decided to give it a try. I expected that it could be something like a pizza but turns out its toast with some prawns, capsicums, tomatoes, herbs and cheese on top. Taste okay, but RM10.90 is a bit pricey for a piece of toast.

Buttered risotto with beef RM12.90
This is so, so good. The risotto is creamy with just the right consistency and textures. The beef is very flavorful. This is a must try.

Chicken Ham Sandwich RM15.90
Nothing much to rave about, its just sandwich. It is quite pricey for two slices of toast and ham in between.
Calamares RM12.90
Calamares are deep fried battered squid, shouldn't be too hard to make. These calamares were sliced too thinly and the squids could not retain its juiciness. Passable, but not something to rave about.
Carne Lasagna RM19.90
Not to be mistaken with the creme brulee below. Rather good lasagna with plentiful of cheese on top.
Creme Catalana
We expected smooth creamy custard, but this has a stickier consistency with a strong hint of cinnamon.
Chef's Salad RM17.90
Chef's salad is  very good. Plenty of ingredients like ham, eggs, lettuce, tomatoes and carrots, with shaved cheese on top.
Pasta Carbonara RM21.90
Pasta carbonara is a bit disappointing, too bland, and not creamy enough.

Mushroom risotto with tempura prawns RM12.90
The mushroom risotto is also rather bland after tasting the butter risotto. The rice are still a bit raw. The tempura prawns were okay. I wished I had ordered the risotto with beef.

Soft shell crab patties RM26.90

Everything comes up to RM220.40 for 5 person.

P/S: Thanks to Hayden Chan for suggesting that I make a more detailed post complete with pricing and locations. I'll be trying the 'flash' trick next time.
